Police and the security forces have arrested a militant of proscribed outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession, officials said on Tuesday.
Based on a specific input regarding the presence of militants in check chandrageer area, a joint search operation was conducted in Check Chandrageer area of Hajin town by Bandipora police, 13RR and C Coy IRP 8th Bn in which one militant, namely Subzar Ahmad Rather @ aatish bhai R/O Awneera Shopian was apprehended, said an official.
Incriminating material along with arms and ammunition (one 9mm pistol along with pistol magazine and 4 live rounds) were recovered from the possession of the said person, added the official.
Rather had joined proscribed outfit LeT recently and was tasked to carry out subversive activities in and around Hajin locality, he said.
In this connection FIR under relevant sections of law stands registered in police station Hajin and investigation has been initiated, he added.
