Union health minister, Jagat Prakash Nadda has felicitated two health centers working under directorate of health services Kashmir for promoting sanitation and infection control. The two centres were awarded Kayakalp certificates.

In the annual Kayakalp award ceremony held in New Delhi on Thursday, the union minister for health and family welfare presented a certificate to district hospital Baramulla for standing first in state of Jammu Kashmir. The certificate is awarded for ‘recognition of efforts towards excellence in promoting cleanliness, hygiene,  and infection control in hospital contributing to improved quality of care. 

The award was also presented to community health center (CHC) Sankoo Kargil. 

The award was presented for assessment period of 2017-18.

In a press statement, DHSK, under which the two health centers function, has appreciated the efforts of the staff and administration of these hospitals. “Such feat has brought laurels to the health services of Kashmir division. It is a proud moment for the directorate,” read the statement.

Speaking to Greater Kashmir, director health services, Dr Saleem ur Rehman said, “Keeping our institutions and centers optimally hygienic is a challenging task.” 

He said for any health institution, hygiene was a pre-requisite for infection control as otherwise the number of patients catered to was just a hollow number.
