Mountain Farming

Greater Kashmir

This refers to the article `The Mountain Farming’ by  Muhammad Yousuf (GK 11th December 2014). International mountain day is being celebrated annually on 11th of December world wide since 2003. I would like to clear that SKUAST-K is a leading university in mountain Agriculture and has two research stations in valley. One at Khudwani and  another at Gurez. SKUAST-K also has two research stations in Ladakh region working on mountain Agriculture which is part of our state. Secondly university has to give technology for mountain communities which we are imparting. The valley has a moderate climate, located in Himalayas  which is largely defined by its geographic location, with the towering Karakoram Range in the north, Pir Panjal Range in the south and west and Zanskar Range in the east. The whole Kashmir is being considered as mountain region if seen in a broader perspective.
