Why J&K remains without an elected legislature: NC MP

Srinagar, Feb 5: National Conference Member of Parliament from Anantnag Hasnain Masoodi on Monday said that President’s address to Parliament steers clear of the plight of the people of Jammu and Kashmir due to the lingering undemocratic rule and absence of a duly elected government.

According to a press release, speaking during the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address in Lok Sabha, Masoodi said, “We disassociate ourselves from the motion. J&K chose to be a part of Gandhi’s India. In return we also received solem commitments on the protection of our identity, exclusive land rights and protection of our unique identity. Notwithstanding the solem commitments made to us, Art 370 was unilaterally, illegally abrogated in 2019.”

He said that the address of the president steers clear of the miseries faced by the people of J&K due to the presence of an elected government. “We are being ruled by a faceless bureaucracy. India proudly calls itself as the mother of democracy, why is J&K without elected Panchayats, ULBs and a legislature,” he said.
