2 militants killed in Sopore encounter: Police

Sopore, Jan 18: Two militants including a group commander were killed in an encounter in Sopore area of north Kashmir on Sunday, police said.
Police said acting on specific information about presence of some militants at Saidpora village in Sopore, Army’s 22 RR and Special Operations Group of Police and CRPF cordoned the entire area late last night.
“As the search party tried to enter the house of Abdul Gaffer, the hiding militants opened fire on them and came out of the house and took shelter in a nearby orchard. The militants were asked to surrender, but they opened fire. The fire was returned and in the ensuing gunfight, two militants were killed,” police said.
Police identified the slain militants as Asudullah and Muhammad Ramzan of LeT. “Ramzan was involved in re-grouping of militants in Kupwara,” a police spokesman claimed.
This is third encounter in Kashmir in one week. Earlier, five militants were killed in Shopian district of South Kashmir while a militant was killed in SofiHamam area of Sopore.
