Asst Dir CAPD arrested while accepting bribe

Srinagar, Aug 31: The Vigilance Organization Friday arrested assistant director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) Srinagar (Rural) Tariq Ahmad Qadri son of Ghulam Ahmad Qadri of Namblabal Pampore while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 in his office chambers.
 The bribe money was recovered from the possession of the officer and his hand wash tested positive, a VO statement said.
 According to a vigilance spokesman, the sleuths of vigilance laid the trap on the written complaint of Sonaullah Wani, storekeeper CAPD posted at Watlar, Ganderbal alleging that the assistant director was demanding an amount of Rs 10,000 for release of payment of a bill for arranging tent at Khir Bhawani Shrine on the directions of Food & Supplies Department last year.
 The file pertaining to release of payment was also recovered from the possession of the accused officer and seized, the spokesman said. A case has been registered in this regard, he further said.
 Meanwhile, the vigilance produced challan in the court of special judge anti-corruption against the then director school education Kashmir and then DEO Pulwama and the concerned beneficiaries.
 The case was registered in police station crime branch, Kashmir on February 13, 1997 to investigate the alleged illegal appointments made in the education department, Pulwama during the year 1992-93.
 “It was subsequently transferred to vigilance by the government order vide order No. GAD (Vig)-132-Camp-98 dated 21-02-2000 for further investigation.”
