Jammu, Jan 25: The BharatiyaJanata Party is likely to field the former police officer Farooq Ahmad Khan and its senior leader Ram Madhav for the RajyaSabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir, sources told Greater Kashmir. The RS polls are scheduled on February 7.
Sources said Madhav is being fielded “in recognition of the work he did in Jammu and Kashmir during the recent assembly elections” while Khan “will be shown as a Muslim face of the party” from the state.
“Madhav is the only national-level BJP face who is well-known in the Valley. He is being nominated to make roots in Kashmir in the next assembly elections. This time BJP will be just part of the government, its actual mission is to make roads in the Valley in the next elections,” they said.
Other probable candidates of BJP for the RS polls include the former state president Shamsher Singh Manhas, former MLA Ashok Khajuria and Sunil Sethi.
Pertinently, PDP has fielded Nazir Ahmad Laway and Fayaz Ahmad Mir as the party candidates for the two RS seats.
