CET Scam: Arrest warrants against 14 accused

CB presents charge-sheet against 19 more

Srinagar, Mar 1: The Crime Branch Saturday charge-sheeted 19 more accused in the CET-2012 paper selling scam in a court here, even as the court issued arrest warrants against 14 accused who failed to appear before it.
Additional SSP Crime Branch, M Aftab Mir, as Investigating Officer, presented the supplementary charge-sheet before Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir, M L Manhas.
The Crime Branch today produced accused Jan Muhammad Dar, who is already in Judicial Custody at Central Jail Srinagar, before the court.
The other accused- Mushtaq Ahmad Peer, Farooq Ahmad Itoo, Sajad Ahmad Bhat and Haroon Rashid Lone- who are also in judicial custody at Central Jail Srinagar, were however not produced before the court.
The court directed the CB to produce the five accused before it on the next date of hearing on March 13.
While presenting the charge-sheet, the CB IO today submitted before the court that despite raids at the residences of the accused by the sleuths of the investigating agency, they could not be traced out.
Following his submission that proceedings may be initiated against the accused under section 512 of CrPC, the court issued arrest warrants against 14 accused, including six students.
Against whom arrest warrants have been issued are: Muhammad Amin Ganie, Mir Wajid, Mir Danish Majid, Abdul Majeed Mir, Fida Hussain, Ruhail Amin, Muhammad Amin Mir, Hilal Ahmad Shokli, Imtiyaz-ul- Hussain, Altaf Hussain Shah, Yasmeena Jan, Arooj Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmad Kanue and Mushtaq Ahmad Dar.
On January 12 this year, CB  had presented charge-sheet against 25 accused in the case including 12 students and 9 parents. With today’s charge-sheet, the total number of accused in the case rose to 44.
The main broker in the scam, Farooq Ahmad Itoo, has already deposed before a court that according to his opinion nearly 40 candidates have got medical berths fraudulently in 2012.
