Srinagar, Mar 13: Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday directed the divisional administration, Kashmir to gear up all men and machinery to work in two shifts on various identified schemes from April 15 this year. And in view of Eid-i-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) during next month, the macadamization work on Dalgate to Hazratbal road would start on April 12.
According to an official spokesman, Azad advised the Divisional Commissioner to immediately convene meeting of all the officers to chalk out double shift work strategy so that earmarked funds are properly utilized for massive development in the Valley. He said the vision of “Khushal Kashmir” can be achieved by serious, devoted and dedicated work culture.
Chairing a high level meeting here this afternoon, after his maiden visit to Gurez, the Chief Minister directed the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir to identify schemes work on which would be carried out in two shifts. He said initially five schemes each should be identified in various infrastructural sectors like R&B, PHE, Irrigation etc.
Azad exhorted the officers to conduct field tours particularly in far-flung areas like Gurez to have a feel of the problems confronting people in such places. He said that heads of various departments should visit Gurez and other such areas so as to have on the spot assessment of the problems as also to strengthen the monitoring mechanism.
The Chief Minister, while reviewing the availability of various infrastructural facilities like staff in educational and health institutions, drinking water and electricity etc in Gurez area, asked for absorption of local educated youth on class-IV posts. He said this would provide job opportunities to the locals as also ensure their presence in such institutions and departments in Gurez itself. He said the matter of providing compensatory allowance (CA) to people serving in far-flung and other areas which remain inaccessible due to winter would be considered after getting the report from the committee set up for the purpose. He asked the Director, Health Services, Kashmir to explore possibility of imparting training to the local educated females in Nursing.
Azad directed the Chief Engineer M&RE to explore possibility of conducting survey for setting up micro hydel projects in Gurez where ample water resources are available. He called upon the Horticulture authorities to take up apricot plantation during the current season in the area. Regarding new schemes under R&B, the Chief Minister instructed the Chief Engineer to take up 2-3 schemes under state sector so as to ensure that benefit of more and more schemes reaches the people of such far off areas.
The functioning of PHE, Social Welfare and Education departments in Gurez area also came up for review in the meeting.
MLA Gurez, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Basharat Ahmad. IGP, Kashmir K Rajendra Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Varmul, several heads of departments and Chief Engineers of various disciplines attended the meeting, the spokesman added.
