'JK Govt was sleeping during floods'

Greater Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 8: Prime Minister NarendraModi Monday slammed the Jammu and Kashmir for its “delayed response” during the September floods, saying “people told me during the deluge they have no faith in the National Conference-Congress government.”
“Soon after hearing the news about huge damage caused by the deluge in J&K, I decided to visit this State. The government here was sleeping while people were suffering. Maximum officers were invisible,” Modi said, addressing a gathering at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium here. “I could understand the pain as I have myself seen
similar troubles. I announced Rs 1000 crore package. But let me assure you that it’s our commitment that we will ensure achay din (good days) for people of flood hit JK.”
Modi said the flood victims told him that relief amount should directly reach their bank accounts. “They don’t trust the local government. They trust me,” the Prime Minister said.
