Srinagar, May 29: Terming Machil fake-encounter expose' as "shocking and barbaric" act People's Conference Chairman Sajad Lone has urged people to put up a united front against the gruesome killings.
"It is a reminder of a prolonged and systemic assault on rights, lives and dreams of Kashmiri Muslims," Lone said in a statement.
He said it was right time to go beyond the realm of manageable and token protests. "Mud slinging and shifting blame from one front to another or rhetorical ambiguity is tantamount to fooling an already persecuted and exploited nation," he said.
Expressing sympathies with the bereaved families Lone said the Machil expose' doesn't uncover a seemingly unprecedented phenomenon as was being projected.
"The lives of young Kashmiri boys in our villages and rural towns have been bought and sold for bravery awards, medals and awards of cash since more than a decade now."
Lone said PC would soon launch a proactive civil discourse to unite voices which continue to defend human rights. "A government ordered probe couldn't salve the torched wounds of those who have lost innocent sons, daughters, fathers and husbands and an indication to the contrary is contemptuous to the tremendous pain and agony the families of the victims are reeling under," Lone added.
