As BJP crossed 300 seat mark in Lok Sabha elections, it was ninth time that any single party has achieved such a feat.
In 1952, Congress had won 398 of 543 seats. Nehru repeatedthe feat in 1957, by winning 395 of 537 seats. In 1962, the party bagged 394 of540 seats.In 1967, it again won 303 of 553 seats andfollowed it by winning 372 of 553 seats in 1971. In 1977, Janata Party secured302 out of 557 seats. The feat was repeated by Congress yet again with 377seats of 566 in next election. In 1984, Congress led Rajiv Gandhi won 426 of567 seats.
