Slender is the thread of hope, unfortunately. It snaps, again and again, leaving us in a perpetual state of despair. On all layers of politics, the world is taken over by a painful series of events, and processes. At the global level the damning race of arms, and the idea balancing the capacity of infusing terror is so horrifying that casts a demonic shadow of a catastrophe over all of us. Come to regional level and the power game involving major states is panning out ominously. Though there are always globally established practices, and institutions, to contain the crises, but sometimes it really drops out of hands. In the major wars fought world over, never did the leaders of the kingdoms, empires and nation-states openly profess war. The rhetoric was surely unleashed on each such occasion, but it was thought that the things can be puled back from the brink. But finally what drove the vehicle of violence was the dynamo of the situation. Everything failed in such crisis.
The case in the Indian subcontinent is no different. From events at the level of domestic politics, to the behaviour of the foreign wings of the states, everything seems to suggest that we are not heading towards a secure and safe future. For us living in the state of Jammu and Kashmir things are even more worrying because the pressure of all this is finally brought to this place, ultimately borne by the unfortunate people of this state. While we grapple with the deepening of the founts of violence around the globe, a turn of events in our midst brings it closer to us. The incidents are a chilling reminder of where do we actually stand. About all such incidents there is hardly anything that hasn’t been said. But ultimately everyone leaves it behind only to confront it at some other time, some days, weeks, or months ahead. This unending spiral of tragedy must not be the fate of a people. In this moment of despair one can only pray for the wheel of justice and mercy move.
