IUST workshop on 3D printing and scanning

A two-day workshop on 3D printing and scanning was held at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) last week. The workshop was organised by design innovation centre (DIC) of the varsity. An IUST spokesman said the engineering students participated in workshop to get first-hand experience in working with world’s most cutting-edge technologies in rapid prototyping. Starting with designing 2D sketches on autodesk inventor software, the participants build their own 3D models and printed them on the Ultimaker 3D printers available at DIC. “IUST is the first university in the Kashmir to establish Design and Innovation Centre (DIC) in partnership with University of Delhi under MHRD initiative in 2015,” the spokesman said. He said the 3D models were built around the theme of ‘Kashmiri Heritage’ depicted through a ‘Kangir’, ‘Shikara’ and ‘Tumbaknaer’. Participants also performed hands-on scanning sessions on the EinScan 3D scanner available at the centre and termed it as an incredible experience. Design fellows from DIC Delhi University also attended the event and delivered sessions on ‘Designing Products for the Market’.
