The infamous BOPEE scandal of 2013 shook the very foundations of secrecy in examination system, and put a question mark on the transparency in competitive exams of valley. But this time the highest seat of learning, KU, ranked grade “A” by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), came to limelight due to leaking of the English and the Environmental Science papers of under graduate 2nd semester. Every year there are rumors of paper leakage of the Kashmir University, but always unheard. Thanks to social media which today expose things more closely. No wonder, it was happening in the university earlier too.
Not only undergraduate but in the past PG, B.Ed and M.Ed papers were believed to have got leaked. If sources are to be believed even the papers of State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) are sold out to the aspirants before exam which is not less than the murder of poor and innocent students who burn midnight oil to qualify this state level exam. The tragedy does not end here; but cool response of the university authorities adds to the worries of students. Who knows how many people till date have got jobs by resorting to such unfair means, murdering the merit of poor students. The poor students pay hefty fee and undergo hardships to reach the college or university, but the another section of students who never go to college and do some other work, get papers in advance and pass the exam with flying colours. This is a great tragedy that may lead to deterioration of education system of the valley.
If this is left unchecked it can become an industry for some officials of the university. Lastly, the University till date has not taken any step to stop this erong practice, and is thus playing with the career of students.
If the University of Kashmir is really concerned about the future of students and wants to erase this blot on the examination system of university, they should look into the matter immediately, and book the culprits.
