The wait about to end

The wait about to end

Hope it proves better for the people

The  fractured mandate given by the people of J&K has resulted in the hung assembly. The indecisiveness on the part of number one and the second largest  political parties have ultimately lead to Governor‘s-rule in the J&K state on 8th of January this year.

On the other hand, Omar Abdullah has been very impatient in shedding the responsibilities as care-taker CM and without waiting till 19th of January. He has again showed his immaturity by submitting his resignation to the Governor. He ought to have given Mufti sahib the full opportunity, till 18th Jan to enable him to arrive at some viable and better decision in forming the next government. No doubt NC has secured 15 seats but the performance of the party has been very dismal and discouraging as compared to its previous records. The party lost the mandate of people for incumbency, bad governance and rampant corruption in their administration. Even the unwise decisions he took  at the fag end of his tenure regarding raising of age, confirmation of RT teachers with retrospective effect etc. to win over the voters, also did not earn him the dividends. The NC is not only a political party but has been a movement in the political  history of Kashmir and has played an important role in the freedom struggle of Kashmir. The old generation of Kashmiris have given many sacrifices in making this party strong. But the present  leaders have failed to make it a people’s friendly party.

Congress party, the coalition partner of NC in the previous regime also could not escape the wrath of voters on the similar counts. The Congress party is buried under the debris of scandals and scams and will hardly come out of it for some time. Had Omar sahib been sincere and honest politician he would have since submitted his resignation in 2009 when his government failed to solve the rape case of two girls of Shopian which brought total break down of law and order in Kashmir. And in 2010 when 110 persons died due to the mishandling of law and order situation by the administration, he should have resigned that time on the moral grounds and paved way for the governor’s rule. Actually he had lost the popular support in 2010 and it was only with backing of Congress that he continued to rule. Even the head of the law and order machinery responsible for mishandling the situation was later on rewarded for appointment on a very significant post after his retirement. Some of  his senior cabinet colleagues functioned as the ministers for their constituencies only and left rest of state to dogs. Had he shown the doors to some of his coalition ministers who were allegedly involved in corruption and land grab, he would not have seen these dark days. Congress has been the equal partner to misdeed of Omar led government. Instead of depending on his naive and inexperienced advisors, had he trusted his committed and dedicated party workers he would not have got the disappointing results in the recently held assembly elections. Recently he has been very smart in meeting the Governor to express his support to PDP, but he was neither asked for, by His Excellency nor the PDP. These  actions on his part shows that he is still non serious to grow as a matured politician.
