Italian singer – songwriter Cesare Cremonini’s catchy single Kashmir-Kashmir has been steadily catching on with many people from this part of the world what is the song about.
The song set in Kashmir like setting somewhere in Italy has already been viewed more than six million times on Youtube.
Kashmir-Kashmir is a single from Cremonini, released on May 18, 2018 as a third extract from his sixth studio album Possible Scenarios.
The song is about a boy of Kashmiri origin and Muslim tradition, who is seen by the white Western population, prey to the psychosis caused by terrorist attacks, as a possible terrorist. On the contrary, the boy just wants to live his life and grow up in Europe with same habits and customs as of his peers.
“It tells the impact of a hypothetical son of an Islamic extremist, who has nothing to do with jihad, with the Western world. Disdain and discrimination clash with the dream of a boy escaped from Kashmir, whose only desire is to dance. Living the West with lightness and in the name of pleasure, discovery, curiosity. Would we be able to afford it? Or is it a bit comfortable for us to remain a criminal in the eyes of everyone?,” Cremonini’s was earlier quoted.

Many commentators have termed the song as highlighting tolerant and everyone-is-welcome nature of Europe.
Poet Ghulam Muhammad Ahangar remembered
Jammu Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages in collaboration with Memorial Aftab Theatre remembered famous Sufi poet Ghulam Muhammad Ahangar popularly known as Gulle Khar during a function organised on the eve of his death anniversary at Daad Ompora, Sursyaar, Budgam.
The function was presided over by famous actor Nazir Josh. He highlighted various facets of the life of the late poet and termed him as a literary gem produced by the soil. On the insistence of audience he also presented a small skit and monologues from his famous serials. The audience responded with huge chairs as Josh enacted his famous scorn roles on the podium.
On the occasion folk singers Abdul Majid Dar and Javed Ahmad Shah Ganderbali mesmerised the audience with their performance. Dr Shabnam Rafiq of JKAACL who conducted the proceedings of the event also there light on the life and work of the poet, who was a simple person yet his poetry had a deep meaning. He appreciated the passion with which people and art lovers had come to be part of the event.
Trailer of Hamid movie released
Mumbai: Even as the uncertainty of release and controversy over the movie Hamid continues, the produced released the trailer of Aijaz Khan’s movie Hamid, which revolved around a Kashmir child.
In the movie, a boy hopes to dial Allah so that he can speak to his deceased father. Hamid, (Talha Arshad Reshi), a child growing up in conflict-hit Kashmir, is perplexed by his father’s disappearance. When he confronts his mother Ishrat (Rasika Dugal) about the fate of father, his mother explains that his father has gone to Allah. Meanwhile a molvi tells Hamid that 786 is “Allah’s number” and he is inspired to dial the digits. “One fine day the phone call is answered, and two lives shattered in the strife of Kashmir find a way to be complete again,” according to the synopsis. The cast also includes Vikas Kumar and Sumit Kaul.
Produced by Yoodlee Films, Hamid will be premiered in the India Story section at the upcoming Mumbai Film Festival, which will be held from October 25 to November 1. It has also been shortlisted for the festival’s Oxfam Best Film on Gender Equality Award.
A date for Hamid’s theatrical release has not yet been announced.
The trailer has already garnered more than 1.8 million views on youtube alone.
Govt invites nominations for State Awards-2019
The Government has invited nominations for the grant of State Awards, for the year 2019, on the eve of Republic Day.
According to a notification issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), the nominations/recommendations of eligible persons/ organizations, along with citation(s), brief bio-data and supporting documents should be sent to GAD by or before 30th November 2018.
The relevant Government orders/policy on the subject is available on the official website of the General Administration Department (www.jkgad.nic.in), it said.
Pertinently, the State Awards are conferred every year on the eve of Republic Day in different categories including Award for Bravery, Award for Achievements in the field of Literature, Awards for Performing Arts, Award for Excellence in Arts and Crafts, Award for Social Reforms and Empowerment, Award for Meritorious Public Service (two awards to be reserved for Non-Gazetted officials), Award for Lifetime Achievements in any other field, Award for Outstanding Sportspersons, Award for outstanding Media-Persons, Award for Outstanding Environmentalists and Award for outstanding Industrial Entrepreneurship.
As per the scheme, the nominations for granting State Awards are to be made by Social Organizations, Sports Bodies, NGOs, Universities, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Administrative Secretaries in relation to awards for Meritorious Public Service, Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners.
Stone carving, Painter’s camp concludes at NZCC
Stone carving & Painter’s camp organized by North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala concluded on Tuesday at its city office at Nehru Park Dalgate here.
The stone carving camp started on 2nd October while painter’s camp begun on 10th October respectively.
Besides local, sculptors from different places of the northern India participated in the camp. Those who participated include Gurmeet Goldie (Chandigarh), Mithun Kumar Dutta (Dharamshala, H.P), Arjinder Kumar (Jammu), Shaiqa Mohi (Srinagar) and Mohd Iqbal (Srinagar).
The Artists (painters), who participated in the camp include Harsh Vardhan (Jammu), Sadhna Sangar (Chandigarh), Bheem Malhotra (Chandigarh), Masood Hussain (Srinagar), M A Mehboob (Srinagar), Shafi Chaman (Srinagar), Kanwal Pal Singh (Chandigarh), Nand Lal Thakur (Shimla, U.P), Suresh Kumar Chaudhary (Kangra, H.P) and Rachita Dutta (Jammu).
The artists said that they had a great time in working in Kashmir for the first time as most of them were from the outside valley. They promised to visit and work here again if such project comes to their way.
Art lovers from across the all parts of Kashmir as well as few foreign tourists visited the stone carving, painter’s camps and appreciated the work of these Artists.
Director NZCC, Prof Saubhagya Vardhan said that they will continue to organize such activities in the valley. “I believe that art connects people from whatever background or religion you belong to. In these camps, we had artists from different religions who loved working and got connected to each other,” Vardhan said.
