Artists, writers awarded on Jan 26 

The state government awarded a host of personalities in the fields of literature, art, culture, during the Republic Day celebrations.

   

The award for achievements in the field of literature was given to Tsering Wangdus Lonpo, writer/translator in Ladakhi Language, Noor Shah, Urdu writer, and Shiv Dev Singh Sushil, Dogri writer. Each of the awardees received a cash Award of Rs 51,000, a Shawl worth Rs. 10,000/- and a Citation.

The award for Performing Arts was given to Makhanlal Saraf, actor, Dermesh Nargotra, Dogri singer and Sherine Fatima,Folk singer Balti. Each of them received a cash award of Rs. 51,000, a medal and a citation.

The award for excellence in Arts & Crafts was given to Farooq Ahmad Mir, Kani Shawl Weaver and Tariq Ahmad Mir, Sozni Crafts. They received a cash Award of Rs. 51,000, a medal and a citation.

Grant of subsidy to authors for the year 2018-19

Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages under its approved scheme has invited for Manuscripts from the interested authors for publication.

According to the notification, the manuscript should be in the approved script viz Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi, Gojri, Pahari, Punjabi, Ladakhi, Balti, Dardi and English languages and be concerning research in the Cultural History of J&K, promotion and development of afore mentioned languages, their literature and their translated works etc.

The notification further reads, “Subsidy shall be sanctioned, only for the manuscripts comprising original and fresh works. Translation works shall also be entertained for grant of subsidy henceforth. However JKAACL shall not consider subsidy for the Manuscripts comprising of thesis for University degrees and publications written/complied for Govt/Semi Govt organisations for their aid and reference.”

Persons settled outside the state writing in Kashmiri, Dogri, Gojri, Pahari, Ladakhi, Dardi, Balti and other languages being looked after by JKAACL, are also eligible. The subsidy to any author in any language shall be granted 2nd time after a gap of minimum of 03 years from the previous subsidy, the notification says.

Application, on prescribed proforma, along with two copies of unpublished Manuscripts, legibly written/typed in double space on full-scape page on one side of the paper and duly bound, should reach on the JKAACL offices at Srinagar, Jammu,

Leh, Kargil, Doda, Rajouri, and Kathua by or before 5th of March 2019. Prescribed minimum page limit for poetry is 80 and prose 100 pages.

Farooq Budgami day observed

On the occasion of 15th anniversary of the revolutionary poet and writer, Farooq Budgami, a literary function was organised at his ancestral district in Budgam. The function started with Quranic recitation by Nasir Hussain which was followed by the recitation of Naat Shareef written by Farooq Budgami.

Dr Ghulam Nabi Haleem presented a paper throwing light on the work, life and literary achievement of the late poet. The paper triggered a healthy debate among the participants. The event was presided over by Shakil u Rehman and number of poets, writers and art lovers were present on the occasion. The speakers appraised the audience about the tremendous work of Farooq Budgami. 

In the second session of the event, a poetry session was also organised, which was presided over by Fayaz Tilagami. Those who participated in the event included Tanha Suhaili, Asadullah Asad, nazir Josh, Riyaz Rubani and others.

Mushaira held at Bandipora

A multilingual Mushaira was held here jointly by Literary Forum Bandipora (LFB) and District Information Centre (DIC) Bandipora.

Senior writer and poet Ali Mohammad Aseer presided over the Mushaira while Ghulam Nabi Zahid and Mir Dachigami were Guests of Honour on the occasion.

The literary event was attended by poets, civil society members, students and members of print and electronic media.

Prominent poets of Bandipora including Mubashir Nazki, Sufi Showkat, Mohammad Yousuf Khayaat, Mir Dachigami, Gh Nabi Zahid, Ali Mohammad Aseer, Rouf Ghayal, Gh Hassan Tayir, Ragib Rashid, Ghulam Mohammad Gulaal, Manzoor Qayasi, Saif Rampuri, Mubashir Muztarib, Shabir Shabnam, Gh Mohiud Din Muztir, Mohammad Shafi, Shah Bashir Ahmad, Shafqat Irshad and Peerzada Mubarak

Some young poets including Aqeel Ahmad, Bilal Rehmani, Mir Tariq also presented their poetry for the first time which was appreciated by the audience present on the occasion. Mansoor Muntazir conducted the proceedings of the Mushaira.

The poets presented their poetry on diverse topics and enthralled the audience.

Speaking on the occasion, President LFB appreciated the efforts of the District Information Centre Bandipora for playing key role in organizing literary activities in the district. He hoped that the department will continue to hold such literary events in future to provide a platform to the young poets and writers.

Wahab Cultural Society Hajin pays tribute to Mahad Saheb Poshwari

Wahab cultural Society Haajin held a condolence meeting here under the chair of Gr Riyaz ul Hassan to pay tribute to famous sufi personality Mahad Saheb Poshwari, who died at his ancestral home at Poshwari Naidkhai.

Paying tributes to Mahad Saheb, the General Secretary of the society Majid Majazi said that Mahad Saheb was a big name and he had successfully taken forward the Sufi Silsila of Lala Aaragami.

The speakers elaborated on the life and works of the Poshwari, whose poetry has a deep impact on its readers. 

In the condolence meeting  Master Manzoor Ahmad, Nazir Javed, Sagar Sarfraz, Wani Nazir, Ghulam Nabi Shaheen, Master Meraj Uddin, Master Muhammad Yacub, Mohammed Altaf, Mir Irfan, Manzoor Ahmad Shah, Master Nazir Aḥmad and Masrat Mehraj ect were present.

The speakers spoke about the life and poetry of the deceased. The meeting ended with prayers for the departed soul. 

Naatiya Mushaira held at Nowgam Sonawari

District Information Centre Bandipora on Thursday organised a day-long Naatiya Mushaira at Nowgam Sonawari in collaboration with Gul-i-Jaffar Bazmi Adab

The programme was presided over by senior poet Dilshad Mustafa while people from different areas were present in the programme along with the other literary figures of the district besides students.

On the occasion, many poets enthralled the audience by their poems while Na’at was also recited by the poets that was appreciated by the audience. While addressing the gathering, the chief guest appreciated the efforts of the Information Department for organizing Mushaira. He further added that the interaction of young poets with established poets of the district would go a long way in shaping students’ talent in poetry.
