Singer Abdul Gani Trali passes away

Renowned singer Abdul Gani Rather alias Gani Trali, passed away this week at his residence. He was 84.

   

Trali was also a famous dancer in the genre of bachha nagma. He worked in JK Information Cultural unit. He also playeda part in popularising famous glass dance in Kashmir.

 Trali was one of thefounders of Cultural wing of the Information Department, who represented thestate at national and international levels in the cultural programs and broughtlaurels to the state. During his three and a half decades career in thecultural wing of the Information department, he earned name and fame at thestate and national level.

He has also been instrumental in promoting Kashmiri musicand culture and inspired a lot of young artists towards music. By virtue of hisdedication, devotion and hard work, Trali rose to the level of AssistantCultural officer and retired from the services in 1992. Even after hisretirement he remained actively involved in cultural activities and associatedwith various cultural organizations of the valley. He has also been associatedwith Radio Kashmir and Doordarshan as a senior artist.

A condolence meeting was held under the Chairmanship ofDirector Information & Public Relations, Gulzar Ahmad Shabnam. The meetingconveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed foreternal peace to the departed soul. Condolence meetings were also held at JointDirectorate of Information Kashmir and Cultural wing of Kashmir Division,District Information Centers at Anantnag and Pulwama also.

World Theatre Day celebrated in Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) Wednesday organised a function to celebrate World Theatre Day here. World Theatre Day is celebrated on 27th of March every year. “The function was organised at Tagore Hall Srinagar, which was presided over by former Director Doordarshan Srinagar Shabir Mujahid, while former Head PG Department of History Kashmir University and noted writer Prof. Farooq Fayaz was chief guest on the occasion,” the statement said.

M Ashraf Tak, chief editor JKAACL presented brief resume ofthe activities which Academy has scheduled on World Theatre Day. “Academy hasbeen celebrating World Theatre Day for the past several years, this year too ithas scheduled programmes at Srinagar, Jammu and Leh,” Tak said.

Prof Farooq Fayaz, presenting special lecture, highlightedthe legacy of theatre in Kashmir from ancient times and role of Jammu andKashmir in promoting and development of modern Theatre.

One more function was organised by SIE Kashmir, BeminaSrinagar, wherein a Street Play “Dandi March” was performed.

Kashmir Theatre Festival organised at Tagore Hall

A four-day theatre Kashmiri festival began at Tagore Hall in Srinagar this week, which attracted the art lovers to a variety of plays.

The festival was organized by North Zone Cultural Centre,Patiala in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.

Eight plays depicting different stories were staged duringthe four day event. The plays included Ye Kous Imtihaan by Ashraf Fayaz, TeleKrae by Gayas-u-Din Sheikh, Jine Poute by S M Haneef, Asse Khokher Loukh by DrSohan Lal Kaul,  Rawan Teul by DildarAshraf, Sarkaar by Dr Sohan Lal Kaul, Gagraie by Shawkat Shehri and PayesPaetoo by Shahzad Shabir.

The festival organisers said that the main aim of organisingsuch an event was to promote theatre culture in the valley, and attractyoungsters towards this field. Terming that theatre is not just confined toacting, but an intellectual discourse also, the organisers  urged youngsters to take it interest in itfor overall personality development.

Street play organised at Khanpora

Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages organized a Street Play Cum Drama Sketches in Govt M S Khanpora, Budgam.

Suhara Welfare Society and Josh Cultural Society staged astreet play on Brotherhood and a drama sketch on the theme of Save Water. Govt.M.S Khanpora, Govt. Girls P.S Khanpora, Govt P.S Laiwane, Govt. P.S HousingColony Ompora, Govt P.S Sheikhpora and local people took part in the Programme.Dr Shabnum Rafiq of Programme Incharge JKAACL welcomed the Students, teachersand local residents.

The teachers, while welcoming the artists, said that the artcan be a great medium for teaching the students about the issues confrontingthe people. The audience appreciated the plays, which propagated the message ofvarious social values.
