What is happening!

Kashmir, like all other human societies produces andconsumes rumours. As a human society there is nothing unusual with this, thoughan overdose of it reflects not just credulity, but lack of maturity. But incase of Kashmir there is more to it. It is a conflict zone, and its politicshas been a victim of tumult for seven decades now. This has affected oursociety severely. The conflicted nature of the zone, and the uncertainpolitics, have made people distrustful of things around them. We never knowwhen the apparent calm of things is going to end, and when some politicalshaking would start a new phase of life here. For the last three decades thisphenomenon has further picked up. In the beginning of the year 1990 we wouldhave rumours of crack downs, of human casualties, and of arrests. Then therewas time when some ‘mysterious’ elements would disturb the calm of life, and peoplewould remain in an agitated state, especially during nights. We never knew thereality of those things, or the people behind such things. But it settledcertain trends in our society. We live in a provisional state of mind –anything is possible! For some days now these things have again surfaced up.Different rumours are doing rounds, and it has unsettled the life here. Peoplesay million different things, and it is not always with out reason. There aresometimes concrete indicators, and one cannot rule out certain apprehensionsaltogether. In this situation it requires no rocket science to understand whatit must be doing to the minds of the people. The stress it generates isimmense. Any normal human society cannot afford this. It has long time repercussions.Particularly when our children watch us talk, and behave, in an agitated stateof mind, it impacts their minds negatively. When they grow in this atmosphere,it is bound to have adverse effects on their psyche. There is a need to exhibitmaturity, and save our children from getting negatively impacted by thissituation.
