What Now?

Undoubtedly pro-resistance leadership represents the truesentiments of masses and enjoys public support, however, the circumstances havechocked their space, and despite being true representatives of people New Delhiis doing everything to suppress them, as if they are rogues. And the massesfeel so scared of New Delhi’s suppression that they cannot even expresssympathy with pro resistance leaders. While New Delhi has a strong propagandamachinery in the form of national media to defend its unwanted and unrealisticmeasures, Kashmiris are empty handed.

There can be nothing more shocking than the fact that thelargest circulated daily newspaper Greater Kashmir, which has earned name andfame at national and international level, is being subjected to victimization. And now the cruel policy of stopping government adds has been extended toKashmir Uzma as well.

The only reason tocurb the voice is to ensure that not only New Delhi’s illogical view point onKashmir is strengthened but the aim is to restrict the information pertainingto atrocities on Kashmiris. A divided mainstream camp having already lost itscredibility is busy in buying votes and in the season of elections OmerAbdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and Sajad Lone are very much busy in trying to bewell-wishers of Kashmiris, thus creating a confusion among masses about theirreal designs.

No one can doubt the sincerity of pro-resistance leaders but one has a right to ask the pro-resistance leadership that what the way forward is? No doubt people are giving sacrifices, Hurriyat leaders are being victimized at the hands of state apparatus and Kashmiris still have full faith in pro-resistance leadership but the million dollar question is how can pro-resistance leadership protect and survive its agenda if New Delhi has gone all out to bulldoze all those voices who dare to call spade a spade.

The important thing is that masses who have suffered beyond doubt need some hope and it is for pro resistance leadership to turn desperation into hope. Isn’t it strange that in 2016 the mainstream politicians had lost almost the relevance and were facing a social boycott by even those who they nurtured over the years? It is a tragedy that within two years things have changed and the so called mainstream leaders have taken over to the driving seat and are trying to cry victim despite the fact that they have acted like collaborators and their role is imminent in every tragedy Kashmir have faced at the hands of New Delhi.

Pro resistance leadership needs to revisit its policies and introspect why it has reached a stage where it is not only at the receiving end; cannot even persuade any credible voice outside Kashmir that they are not aggressors but victims of state’s brutality.

Why cannot pro resistance camp change its policy towards participation in electoral politics is a million dollar question as unfortunately the only criteria for being loyal to Kashmir cause is if you boycott any elections.

The irony is that world has changed but the pro resistance leadership seems trapped and stuck in its own net and is not able to take any innovative decision that could have changed things a lot. The argument that participation in elections means accepting India’s stand on Kashmir is silly as most of the pro resistance leaders have participated in the elections from time to time, and Kashmir dispute was even then existing there like Himalaya.

Kashmiris have a leadership which unfortunately does not believe in changing the prescription thus helping New Delhi and adding to the disappointment with every passing day.

The unfavorable circumstances at home and abroad should be like a wakeup call for pro resistance leadership and they must understand they are fighting for resolution of a political dispute and must show courage and wisdom to say good bye to beaten tracks and should understand doing so is not a crime.

Giving just a traditional boycott call without realizing its negative impact is disastrous for Kashmir cause and the upcoming parliament elections provide an opportunity to pro-resistance leadership to introspect how their boycott call helps and who gets benefited.
