1 killed in Rajouri flash floods, roads damaged

Heavy rainfall for more than two hours on Tuesday evening affected normal life in many areas of Rajouri district resulting in damage to some roads while a person was drowned in Aans river of Kotranka.

As per details, heavy rainfall started at about 03:30 PM and lasted till 05:30 PM during which most of the areas of Rajouri district witnessed heavy rainfall resulting in steep rise in water level in most of the water bodies and flash flood in a few.

Narinder Kumar and other traders from Hill Milton bridge market told Greater Kashmir that due to heavy rainfall, flash flood hit Gurdan Balla Nallah which washed away temporary road constructed along Hill Milton resulting in closure of road which connects old bus stand Rajouri with Jammu Poonch highway.

Hill Milton bridge is presently under repairs and authorities had construct an alternate road with bridge to facilitate vehicular traffic.

They said that a motorcyclist had a narrow escape when flash flood hit the area.

Flash flood in Gurdan Nallah also resulted in water entry in mini sports stadium Rajouri leading to its partial damage.

“The temporary road got washed away and we have closed all kinds of traffic from old bus stand to highway via Hill Milton bridge,” police said.

On the other hand, vehicular traffic on Rajouri Thanamandi road and Rajouri Budhal road remained suspended at multiple locations for some time due to sudden rise of water in water channels amid heavy rains.

A person identified as Mohammad Javed son of Abdul Rashid resident of Panihad was washed away in river.

An unidentified body was found in Aans river which was then shifted to CHC Kandi where it was later identified, said block medical officer Kandi, Dr. Iqbal Malik.

He added that medico-legal formalities are going on in the hospital.
