129 new COVID cases in Rajouri, Poonch

At least 129 COVID19 cases were reported in twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri on Friday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rajouri, Sher Singh said 68 persons tested positive for the viral infection. Sharing details, he said 26 person from Rajouri town, 15 from Kalakote, 10 from Kandi, eight from Thanamandi, four each from Darhal and Nowshera and one from Sunderbani were tested positive for COVID19.

   

Singh said while 1,035 reports were received on Friday, 2,195 fresh samples were collected. He said COVID positivity rate has increased to 6.57%.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Poonch, Rahul Yadav said two travelers were among 61 persons who tested positive in the district. Of the 59 local cases, 11 are from Poonch, three from Mandi, 27 from Surankote and 20 from Mendhar.

The DC said 1,666 persons have so far tested positive for coronavirus in Rajouri including 742 recoveries and 914 active cases. The district has recorded 10 COVID deaths, said the DC.

Meanwhile, strict restrictions were enforced in Rajouri town amid spike in COVID19 cases. While market remained closed, traffic movement was restricted to prevent further spread of the infection.

An official said Ward No. 1 to Ward No. 12, except Ward No. 6 were declared as red/containment zones. He said the District Magistrate Rajouri ordered imposition of strict restrictions following which police set-up nakas in all the areas and directed for closure of all kinds of business establishments.

“Only pharmacist shops, diagnostic laboratories and nursing homes have been allowed to function whereas public transport also remained off roads,” said the official.

The official said aggressive sampling and testing was being carried out in the town amid spike in the COVID cases. “We appeal people to cooperate and support the drive,” said ADC Rajouri.

The administration constituted eleven teams which shall oversee implementation of COVID SOPs and restrictions in all eleven wards of the town. The health department has also been directed to deploy at least two testing teams in each Ward to collect samples whereas Tehsildar Rajouri has been asked to give wide publicity to the efforts of administration for maximum public cooperation.
