16 labourers reach Poonch from Kashmir, quarantined

The district authorities here on Sunday quarantined 16 laborers who entered the district late on Saturday evening using a centuries old traditional route of Budgam-Khada Ki Gali- Loran to reach their native places.

An official said all 16 persons are resident of Loranvillage and were working as labourers in Srinagar where they got stuck due tothe lockdown amid the COVID19 pandemic.

   

“OnThursday evening, all the men moved towards Budgam from Srinagar and on Fridaymorning, they started the journey on foot from Budgam to Poonch via Khada KiGali,” the official said.

He said the labourersspent a night somewhere near Nandi Chool and resumed the journey the nextmorning and reached Poonch on Saturday evening.

“All the laborers were successfully evacuated by thepolice team in Loran and shifted to a quarantine center in the area,” theofficial said.

He said the route from Poonch’s Loran to Kashmir’s Budgamvia Khada Ki Gali, Domail Dhok and Nandi Chool was a traditional one usedcenturies ago.

District Magistrate Poonch, Rahul Yadav said no sooner theygot the information about the movement of the labourers they were interceptedand shifted to quarantine.

“They entered the district illegally,” he said.
