2 houses damaged, 12 families evacuated in Rajouri

At least two residential structures were damaged after a major landslide hit village Loha Katha of Kotranka tehsil here, officials said.

The officials said that 12 families residing in the ‘slidered zone area’ houses were also evacuated and shifted to safer places with mostof them moved to there relatives living in the adjoining villages.” saidofficials who added that rescue operation was launched immediately after theinformation of slide was received on Sunday morning.

   

“So far no loss oflife took place.” they said.

Locals informed that afew days ago, a normal landslide hit the Kandi village Loha Katha which kept onswelling with passing days and on Saturday evening a major portion of landslidedownwards triggered panic in the area.

A fresh slide took placeon Sunday morning when around 40 kanals of land were hit by the slide.

It has been learnt that the slide is taking place continuouslyand there is every possibility that slide debris can engulf 11 houses locateddownwards in the village and people living in these villages have been shiftedto other places.

Deputy CommissionerRajouri Mohammad Nazir Sheikh said relief in the form of tents and othermaterial has been provided as immediate help for the affected families.

“We will ensure every possible help to the affectedfamilies and Additional Deputy Commissioner Kotranka has also been asked tosubmit a detailed loss report by tomorrow,” said Deputy Commissioner.
