3 Rajouri villages without water for 7 months | Villagers protest against Jal Shakti department; decry official apathy

Irked over failure of Jal Shakti department in repairing pipelines and restoring water supply, disrupted for the last seven months, the inhabitants of Mankote, Sadhyal and Mubarakhpura villages of Rajouri tehsil Saturday staged a protest demonstration.

Protest demonstration was held in Mankote. The protesters led by local leaders, including Yogesh Sharma and Mohammad Shabir, also burnt the effigy of the officials of Jal Shakti department to give a vent to their anger.

The protesters alleged, “For last seven months, the water supply to Sadhyal, Mankote, Mubarakhpura villages has not been restored. It got disrupted after the pipeline of the lift water supply scheme was damaged during road construction work but the department failed to repair it.”

“Around three hundred families in the area have been suffering without water for the last seven months. However, the concerned engineers of Jal Shakti department are least bothered about the plight of villagers. Around a dozen deputations of the people met them in their offices but they did bother to address the public grievance,” they added.

They further said that as summer season was about to start, their problems would get multiplied on account of a disrupted water supply scheme.

The protesting villagers warned to block the highway after one week if water supply was not restored till then.
