5 arrested, 57 animals rescued: Police

Rajouri unit of Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested five men and rescued 57 bovine animals in separate incidents across the district.

The police said, “In the morning hours, a team of police from Kandi police station, apprehended a man as he was transporting 14 bovine animals on foot. The man, identified as Mohammad Taj, was arrested on the spot and the animals were rescued.”

   

Similarly, another team from Kandi police station, during naka checking at Kandi Gali village intercepted a man and rescued 24 bovine animals from his possession. “The man, identified as Mohammad Iqbal, was transporting the animals on foot and could not produce the requisite documents on being asked. He was arrested and the animals were rescued.”

Meanwhile, a team of police, led by SHO Thannamandi Nazir A Dar, under the supervision of SDPO Iftikar A Chowdhary, laid a check-post at Upper Bridge Thannamandi and intercepted two vehicles, JK22 3646 and JK11B 4398. “On checking, the vehicles were found loaded with bovine animals. A total of 15 animals were rescued and both the drivers, identified as Zakir Hussain and Nazarat Hussain, were arrested,” the police said.

Meanwhile, four bovines were rescued by a team from kandi police station from Hubi from the possession of a man, identified as Wali Mohammad, who was arrested, police said.
