6 posts lie vacant in Rajouri

Already under fire for shortage of teaching staff in several education institutions, with some government schools even being locked by students and parents in the recent weeks, Education department in Rajouri is now crippling with the shortage of officers of the rank of zonal education officers (ZEOs).

As per details collected by Greater Kashmir, six out of fifteen posts of ZEOs are lying vacant in Rajouri district, leaving six education zones headless, including the Rajouri headquarter zone.

Out of fifteen education zones in the district, Baljrallan, Doongi, Kalakote, Khawas, Nowshera, Moghala, Sunderbani, Peeri and Kotranka have ZEOs posted in the zones. However, Darhal, Thannamandi, Manjakote, Dandesar, Lower Hathal and Rajouri zone remain without a head for several months.

Details revealed that in the six zones, which have vacant ZEO posts, additional charge has been given to the senior most Higher Secondary School principal in each zone.

“A Higher Secondary School principal is doing two jobs at the same time in each of these six headless zones,” sources said, giving reference of Rajouri headquarter zone, where the charge of ZEO lies with principal of Boys Higher Secondary School Rajouri.

Sources further said that due to delay in posting of ZEOs, overall working of the department in these six zones continues to be affected.

They further said that there is no one to inspect the punctuality of staff in the schools as the in-charge ZEOs, who are principals, are busy looking after the working of their own institution and ZEO office. “Thus, they do not get enough time to move out for inspection in the field.”

“Even higher authorities are well aware of the problem, but posting of ZEOs continues to be a distant dream. Even the post of ZEO Rajouri, which is the district headquarter, lies vacant for the last five months now,” they claimed.

On being contacted by Greater Kashmir, chief education officer Rajouri Lal Hussain confirmed that six education zones do not have regular ZEO and the senior most Higher Secondary School principals in these zones are holding additional charges.
