Ailing Healthcare: Post of DyCMO Rajouri lying vacant for months

With the health sector already in ailing condition in Rajouri district due to shortage of staff and adequate infrastructure in several hospitals, the delay in posting an officer on the post of deputy chief medical officer (DyCMO) is hampering the overall working of the department further.

The DyCMO office, located in the office complex of chief medical officer, bears a deserted looks. As per details collected by Greater Kashmir, an officer serving as the DyCMO was transferred in the third week of March, 2018. Since then, the post has been lying vacant and the CMO holds the additional charge.

As part of his duties, the DY CMO is supposed to look after the working of family welfare and immunization wing of the Health department, which is one of the most important wings, keeping the ongoing Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign in mind. Besides, the DyCMO is also supposed to supervise health institutions across the district, with an aim to improve the work culture.

“The DyCMO is also the principal of the Ancillary Medical Training School, wherein hundreds of students are studying,” an official of the department said.

On being contacted by Greater Kashmir, CMO Rajouri Dr Suresh Gupta confirmed that the post of DyCMO Rajouri has been lying vacant and he is holding the additional charge of the post.
