Audit roads blacktopped in 2018: Rajouri residents urge admin

The residents of Rajouri district have appealed to the district administration and the Governor’s administration to audit all the roads blacktopped in 2018, alleging serious lacuna in the work which has now led to many roads being dilapidated.

Many people also shared photographs, videos and other content on social media platforms, alleging poor quality of work on several roads executed by the Public Works (Roads and Buildings) department and PMGSY in the district.

Mohammad Sadiq, a resident of Tandwal, said, “The Deputy Commissioner recently visited Mubarakh Pura and took note of poor quality blacktopping work executed a months ago.”

Mohammad Rouf from Palma Kalalkass said, “The blacktopping on local PMGSY road has already started to disarrange and road looks dilapidated. We demand a probe into the quality of the executed work.”

The residents of Darhal claimed that a portion of Darhal main road was blacktopped only a few months ago, but the road is already dilapidated. “It is clearly a case of poor quality work. We demand a probe into the matter and request the authorities to take note,” they said.

The people alleged that the concerned departments are allowing contractors to lay poor quality blacktop on roads, due to which the newly-completed roads are wearing a dilapidated look.

On being contacted, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, said, “I received information about poor quality work on Mubarakh Pura to Sohana Gali road, for which I have already suspended a junior engineer and ordered a probe.”

He assured that all the complaints regarding poor quality work on roads completed recently will be taken up on priority.
