Authorities recount votes of Gambhir Mughlan panchayat

The district administration recounted votes of sarpanch elections of GambhirMughlan-C panchayat and enclosed the result in a secret parcel, which will be submitted before the high court.

As per details with Greater Kashmir, elections for GambhirMughlan-C panchayat were held on November 17, under the first phase. After the polling, a winner was declared among three candidates.

An officer of district administration told Greater Kashmir: “One of the candidates later filed an objection before the court of addition deputy commissioner. He challenged the decision, alleging foul play.”

The officer further said that the matter was submitted before the high court, which directed the administration to conduct recounting of votes and to seal the result in a secret package, before submitting it to the court.

“Authorities, under the deployment of police, conducted re-counting on February 19, but the votes of Ward 6 were found to be misplaced on that day. A probe was conducted and later votes were recovered from the box of another returning officer,” the officer said.

Re-counting was again conducted on Thursday and the result was sealed in a package by the district panchayat officer, Rajouri, under the supervision of assistant commissioner development, Rajouri.

“Recounting was conducted and we will submit the result before the court soon,” the district panchayat officer, Abdul Khabir, said.
