Candidates file nominations for Rajouri MCs

Several candidates filed their nomination papers for the posts of president and vice-president in five municipal committees of Rajouri district on Wednesday, while in Rajouri municipal committee, the contest seems to be a tight one.

As per details available with Greater Kashmir, in Sunderbani and Nowshera municipal committees, BJP backed candidates filed their nomination papers. Besides, some other candidates also filed their papers. In Kalakote municipal committee, an independent candidate filed his nomination papers.

   

It is being believed that in Nowshera and Sunderbani municipal committees, BJP will clinch the posts of president and vice-presidents, whereas in Kalakote, independent candidates will be elected.

On the other hand, Congress candidate Shakeel Ahmed Mir is all set to become the president of municipal committee Thannamandi.

However, a tight contest is set to be witnessed in Rajouri municipal committee, as a BJP candidate, a Congress candidate and an independent have filed their papers for the post of the president.

Reports said that after three-day long discussions in meeting, names of four winning candidates were selected and Iftikar Ahmed Dar was, finally selected as the Congress candidate for the post of president. He filed his nomination paper.

Similarly, Rajinder Gupta from BJP and independent candidate Mohammad Arif from Ward 15 also filed their nominations.

On the other hand, Congress backed independent candidate Sanjay Sharma and BJP candidate Bharat Bhushan Vaid filed their nomination papers for the post of vice-president.

The elections for the posts will be held across all five municipal committees on November 18.
