Constructed in 2018, bridge collapses in Mendhar

Within a year of completion of its construction, a footbridge constructed in Kala Ban village of Mendhar collapsed.

The locals told greater Kashmir: “The footbridge was constructed near a famous shrine, popularly known as Takia Sharif shrine, in Kalaban village of Mendhar. The construction work was completed in early 2018, at an estimated cost of Rs 52 lakhs.”

“What kind of material did the rural development department use to construct the bridge that it could not even last an entire year? Why is the department being so callous and wanting to play with the lives of poor people?” they asked.

They demanded an in-depth probe into the construction of the bridge.

On being contacted, assistant commissioner development, Poonch, Quyoom Mir, said that bridge was constructed by a private agency and the damaged portion has been “reconstructed”.

The locals urged upon the governor’s administration to look into the issue and book the concerned officers and officials for callous attitude.
