Deputy commissioner Mohammad Aijaz Asad and senior superintendent of police Yougal Manhas visited Manjakote on Tuesday and met the presiding officers and candidates contesting Panchayat polls from Manjakote and Pangrain blocks.

Panchayat polls for these blocks will held in the first phase and are scheduled to be held on November 17.

Block development officer Manjakote Mohammad Nawaz Choudhary apprised the DDC about the number of candidates contesting elections in the panch as well as sarpanch halqas. Besides, the DDC also held a discussion with the officers regarding any violation of model code of conduct, basic minimum facilities at each polling station and the distance of each polling station from motorable road.

It was informed that there are 174 polling stations in Manjakote block, having 54 polling locations. Similarly, there are 79 polling stations, having 18 polling locations in Panjgrain block, whereas there are 253 polling stations in both the blocks, out of which 105 have been categorized as hyper sensitive,133 as sensitive and 15 as normal.

In Manjakote block, there are 166 candidates contesting elections for panch and 41 candidates for sarpanch. 

While interacting with the contesting candidates, Asad stressed upon them to cooperate with the district administration and abide by election rules. He said, “Flying squads have already been constituted to check any violation of the model code of conduct and to ensure free and fair elections. The state election authority has deployed expenditure observers and general observers to ensure implementation of model code of conduct during the election campaign.”

Addressing the meeting, the senior superintendent of police said all the security arrangements are in place for holding fair and transparent elections. He said that in case he receives any information about any untoward incident, any violation of the model code of conduct or any unlawful activity which hampers the smooth conduct of the election, action will be initiated as per law.

Tehsildar Manjakote Sheraz Chouhan, BDO Manjakote Nawaz Choudhary and SDPO Manjakote Imtiaz Ahmed were also present on the occasion.
