Dodassan morns Naseer’s death

Dodassan-Bala mourned the death of NaseerHamed, who was one among the soldiers killed in the attack on CRPF convoy in Lethpora area on Thursday.

46-year-old Ahmed was working as a head constable and was reportedly the commander of the ill-fated bus.

Dodasaan-Bala, a village in Thannamandi tehsil and around 18 kilometers from Rajouri town, did see its share of peak militancy in the first decade of the twentieth century.

“It was about 5 pm on Thursday when I came to know that the CRPF convoy had been attacked,” Sehrajud Din, a police constable and Naseer Ahmed’s elder brother, said, “After hearing the news, I trembled and fainted, as I knew that my younger brother was a part of the convoy.”

Sehraj said that at about 8 pm, he saw the list of the slain soldiers. “I did not even have to go through the list as my brother’s name was right on top. He was serial number 2,” he said, with teary eyes.

“My father had died when I was just seven years old. I brought up Naseer with my own hands. He was not only my younger brother, but more of a son to me. He was my best friend,” Sehraj said.

“He left us. He is survived by his wife and two children. Who will take care of them? Though his family is mine to take care of, but I do not think I will be able to fill the void he left in his children’s hearts,” Sehraj said, adding, “My wife used to love him like a son. She still does not believe that Naseer is no more.”

Sehraj added, “Naseer was a good human being. He worked relentlessly during the 2014 floods and he was never late for duty. He deserved to be with us.”

On being asked about the last contact he had with Naseer, Sehraj said, “Naseer called me on Thursday morning. He said that he has a light fever and would call once he reached the camp. But he never did.”

NisarRahi, a senior citizen of the area, told Greater Kashmir that the entire Dodassan-Bala belt is in pain after Nasser’s death. “Naseer used to motivate the youth. He was so loving and caring. He always had a bright smile across his face,” he said.

The local sarpanch appealed to the government to construct a memorial in honour of Naseer in the village.
