A 69-year-old man was arrested here on Sunday for allegedly possessing a consignment of drugs and over Rs 2 lakh, Jammu and Kashmir police said.
A police officer said, “On a specific information, a checkpoint was established at Haroog by a team led by station house officer, Dharamkund, inspector Ajeet Singh. The cops saw a man walking suspiciously and asked him to stop. During frisking, 110 intoxicating injections (Tramadol), and cash worth Rs 2,16,400 was recovered from the man’s possession.”
The man was arrested on the spot and the contraband substances and cash were seized, the officer said, adding that the accused has been identified as Mohammad Yousaf.
“During questioning, the accused revealed that he was carrying the consignment to sell among youth,” he said, adding that an FIR has been registered and police are trying to ascertain the source and nab other persons involved in the illegal practice.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday claimed to have recovered five kilogram poppy straw from a truck.
A police officer said, “A team led by station house officer, Ramban police station, inspector Vijay Kotwal, laid a checkpoint near Khowbagh crossing at the outskirts of Ramban town on Jammu-Srinagar highway.”
“During checking, an apple-loaded truck, PB13AQ-6802, en route Punjab was stopped for checking. During search of the vehicle, five kilogram poppy straw, hidden in a gunny bag was recovered from the cabin of the truck,” he said, adding that the driver of the vehicle, identified as Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Mehmoodpur, Punjab, was arrested on the spot.
An FIR has been registered and police are investigating the case further.
