EVM glitch mars voting in Mahore

The residents of Mahore tehsil Thursday staged a demonstration against a “technical snag” in the electronic voting machine put in use at a polling station in Mall Dada in Sajroo.

Mohammad Javed, a resident of Sajroo, said, “Voting wasgoing on smoothly till 1 pm. But then, a woman went in to cast her vote. Oncoming out, she claimed that while she voted for one party, her vote was castedin favour of another. Later, some other voters also complained about facing thesame issue.”

   

The residents staged a demonstration outside the pollingstation, while some of them barged inside and damaged the “faulty” EVM.

Later, tehsildhar Mahore, along with administrative officersreached at the spot and replaced the EVM with a new one.

On being contacted, tehsildar Mahore, Nirbhay Sharma, said,”When I reached at the polling station, the EVM had already been damaged. Wehad brought a new machine along and we replaced the former with the latter.After that, polling continued smoothly.”

He added that the issue has been conveyed to the chiefelectoral officer, who would order an enquiry.
