Flash floods cause widespread damages in Rajouri, Poonch

Flash flood triggered by heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday caused widespread damages of infrastructure in Rajouri and Poonch district with over 130 structures have received partial to complete damage in Rajouri district alone.

Heavy rainfall started in the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday and continued till Thursday late evening hours with most of the river bodies in both the district remain flooded and eighteen person stuck in flash flood were rescued by teams that include seven in Rajouri and eleven in Poonch district. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Sher Singh informed Greater Kashmir that administration is seeking Damage Report of 130 structures so far and number is likely to increase a bit.

   

He said that 32 kacha (clay) house and two pucca (concrete) house have been completely damaged whereas 16 kacha houses have been severely damaged.

Meanwhile, ADC Rajouri said, five pucca houses and 34 kacha house have been partially damaged in the rainfall and flash floods.

“As per the field reports available so far, forty one cattle shed have also received damages in the incident and we have sixty three deaths of animals in the district so far.” The officer informed.

Similarly, two flour mills of traditional nature (Gharat) got washed away in flood and 349 kanals of agriculture land got eroded, ADC Rajouri further said. Later, Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, Rahul Yadav said that around nearly 50 structures have been damaged in the district due to heavy rainfall and flash flood.

“The number could be more as details are being collected by field staff and partial damages of structures are expected to rise but around forty structures, that include, cattle shed have received moderate to severe damages in the rainfall.”  DC Poonch added.
