Forest deptt seize vehicle ‘smuggling’ wood

The forest department Sunday claimed to have foiled a wood smuggling bid and seized six logs from a vehicle on the Mughal Road, here in Surankote.

Range officer, Surankote, Nissar Hussain, told GreaterKashmir: “An information was received that timber smuggling is taking place onthe Mughal Road. A team of the forest department led by the block officer Murralaid a checkpoint on Mughal road and intercepted a Tata mobile, loaded withfour logs of Sir and two of Kayil.”

   

The range officer further said, “The vehicle was seized, butsome senior official, accompanied by personal security officers and travellingin a Tempo Traveller behind the vehicle, manhandled the officers of the forestdepartment and managed to flee from the spot alongwith the driver of the TataMobile.”

He further informed that a case has been registered and adetailed report has been submitted to the divisional forest officer Poonch.

Range officer Surankote, Nissar Hussain also informed that aletter for confiscation of the vehicle will be processed and the department isalso mulling to lodge a complaint before competent authorities against thegovernment official who tried to resist the forest department team from doingits job
