GHS Trala students protest over water scarcity, shortage of teachers

Students of Government High School Trala in Rajouri staged a demonstration on Tuesday and blocked the Rajouri-Budhal road for over an hour and a half, protesting shortage of staff and scarcity of water in their school.

The protest started in the morning hours, after a large number of students assembled on the road and blocked it. They raised slogans against Public Health Engineering department and Education department.

The agitating students said, “The number of staff members posted in our school is less than the required number. Due to the shortage, our studies are affected,” adding, “We demand that additional staff should be posted at an earliest.”

They alleged, “We apprised the PHE department and prominent citizens of the area, including sarpanches, about the scarcity of water in our school, but nothing has been done. No one bothers to pay any attention.”

Later, SHO Rajouri Tahir Khan and other officers, including district education planning officer, reached the spot and pacified the agitating students. They assured them that additional staff would be posted in the school, while the issue related to water scarcity will be taken up with concerned authorities for redressal.

On the assurance, the protest was called off.
