Gulabgarh residents protest power shortage

The residents of Gulabgarh Sunday staged a demonstration against the shortage of power supply in their area.

The protesting locals alleged, “Since two months, Gulabgarh,Baransal and Kaidoora are without electricity.”

   

They said that due to heavy snowfall, around 2 months ago,electric poles and wires suffered damages and the department has not botheredto initiate repair. “While the prime minister talks about digital India, we areyearning for basic amenities. We are not moving forward, but going back to oillamps and candles,” they claimed.

They also accused successive political parties of failing todevelop the area. “They (political parties) have only used us as vote banks.They have not come through on their promises,” the irked locals said.

Later, incharge police post Gulabgarh, Gulam Nabi, reached the spot and pacified the protesters, assuring them that their problems will be forwarded to the higher authorities. On this assurance, the protest was called off.
