The armies of India and Pakistan Wednesday exchanged gunfire along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
Heavy exchange of fire took place in Krishna Ghati area while a ceasefire violation also took place in Mankote, they said.
There were no immediate reports of any loss of life or injuries on either side.
Army’s Jammu-based spokesperson said in a statement that the Pakistan army continued its “nefarious activities along the LoC and fired small arms and mortars in Mendhar at about 4 pm”.
He said that the army was “retaliating strongly and effectively”.
Pakistan Army was firing 120 mm and 81 mm mortars continuously, the officials said.
