At a time when the paddy crop is being sown in most parts of the Rajouri district, the posts of Executive Engineers (XEns) in Rajouri and Nowshera divisions are lying vacant.
Irrigation and Flood Control Department maintains and repairs irrigation canals besides devising flood management plans to prevent soil erosion and launching rescue operations during floods.
With continuous rainfall, the water level in most streams has increased above the normal level, thus looming risk of flood and soil erosion and loss to the paddy crop.
“But since the posts of XEns are lying vacant in both the divisions, there is no one to prepare the flood management plans this season,” a villager, Mohammad Yasin said.
As per sources, the post of XEn I&FC division Rajouri is lying vacant since March 31st this year after the former XEn attained superannuation and the post of XEn Nowshera, who was given the additional charge of Rajouri division, is also lying vacant since May 31st this year.
Not only the agricultural related works have been affected with the retirement of the former XEns but the lower-rung staff of I&FC Department is also claiming that they have not received their salaries since May this year as the drawing and disbursing powers were also with the XEns.
DC Rajouri, Mohammad Aijaz Asad said that higher ups have been informed about the vacancies and very soon the needful will be done.
