Independents win most seats in Poonch

Independents candidates, allegedly supported by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and National Conference (NC), won maximum seats in the municipal elections in Poonch district.

Of the total 30 wards in municipal council Poonch and municipal committee Surankote, 23 were won by the independents.  

   

In Poonch municipal council, only six candidates from political parties managed to register their win while independent candidates registered their win on rest eleven wards.

The independent candidates registered win from ward 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13 and 16.

BJP also won four seats in Poonch including ward 6, 12, 14 and 17 whereas Congress candidates won only two wards including ward 3 and 15.

Independent candidates also hoisted the flag of win in municipal committee Surankote where they won twelve out of thirteen wards. Among these thirteen candidates, four were elected unopposed.

Only one Congress candidate managed victory in Surankote who won the elections from ward 6.
