Indo-Pak armies exchange fire across LoC in Poonch

Indo-Pak armies Sunday evening exchanged heavy gunfire across the Line of Control at Shahpur and Saujiyan areas in Poonch sector.

Police officials said that at about 5 PM, the firing startedat Saujiyan and Shahpur forward areas and both sides used small arms fire aswell as intense mortar shelling.

   

“Heavy shelling is going on in at both Shahpur and Saujiyanand a large number of mortar shells have so far fallen in human habitationsclose to Line of Control,” they said.

Jammu-based Army Spokesman said: “At about 5 PM, Pakistaninitiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing of small arms and intensemortar shelling along Line of Control in Shahpur and Saujiyan sectors.”The Indian army is retaliating befittingly,” he added.

Meanwhile, a 10-month old infant was among three persons whowere injured in the cross LoC firing in Poonch sector.

All the three injured are resident of Shahpur villagelocated close to Line of Control.

MS Poonch district hospital, Dr Shamim said that MohammadArif son of Sayeed Khan, Fatima Jan wife of Mohammad Qasam and her 10-month oldbaby were admitted in Poonch hospital.

“Surgery of injured lady is going on. The injured child isout of danger but the third person has grievous injuries and has been referredto GMC Jammu for specialised treatment.”
