While the authorities of these departments are in deep slumber, we are being forced to consume contaminated water while no supplies of rations are available in the outlet.

Claiming that they are being compelled to consume unhygienic dirnking water, inhabitants of Hatta and  Pochhal  areas of  Kishtwar district  have demanded adequate supply of drinking water and availability of rations in government outlets.

While talking to Greater Kashmir, Mohd Munwar Butt, a senior citizen lamented that in spite the village Pochhal being adjacent to Kishtwar town the authorities of the PDD and CAPD were taking them for granted.

“While the authorities of these departments are in deep slumber, we are being forced to consume contaminated water while no supplies of rations are available in the outlets”, he said.

Another group of people from Hatta area said the consumption of unhygienic water supplied through tankers as also the ground water was threatening disease outbreaks in the area.

“Both tankers and ground pumps are commonly used for the washing of clothes but we are compelled to use it for drinking purposes, despite the impurities”, they said.

Meanwhile, the locals demanded that the government should meet the required stock of ration and kerosene oil in the villages claiming that they were facing acute shortage of essential commodities as the outlets are running dry.

“There is a dearth of ration and drinking water in our villages and the authorities should take urgent measures to mitigate the problems”, said Satish Kumar of Hatta and urged the government to provide sufficient quantity of ration and kerosene oil in the area.

When contacted, Tehsil Officer Kishtwar, said that the CA&PD department has enough ration dumped in their general store but he is waiting for release order from higher authorities which is expected to arrive soon. “Soon after receiving release orders we will supply ration of all outlets”, he said.
