Thousands of people, living in several villages of Kotranka, staged a demonstration on Wednesday to lodge their protest against the shortage of water supply in their areas.

Peoples Democratic Party youth general secretary Thakur Balwant Singh, while addressing the protesters at KotrankaChowk, alleged, “The public health engineering department has failed to provide water supply to more than a dozen villages of Kotranka, since the past three months.”

He identified the villages as Khah, Jamola, Sawari, Rehan, Hubbi, DharSankari, Sanokte and Trallaamong others.

“The main water feeder from Aanariver, from which water is supplied to the villages has been lying damaged since the last three months. As a result, there has been no water supply and the village has come to a standstill,” he claimed.

Other villagers, including Mohammad Shoket and Jagpal Sharma, castigated the public health engineering department for showcasing “callous approach” in dealing with the issue.
