LoC flare-up: Army Major, soldier, porter killed in Rajouri

In three back to back incidents on the Line of Control in Rajouri on Friday, an army major was among three persons killed while two others were injured.

As per details shared with Greater Kashmir by sources, an army gypsy was moving in a forward area of Line of Control in Lam Pukharni area of Nowshera sector in Rajouri district when an explosion took place.

"Three army personnel including a havaldar were injured in this explosion who were shifted to medical aid centre of the army," sources said, adding that the injured were later airlifted to command hospital Udhampur . However, one of the injured later succumbed to his injuries.

Sources said the second incident took place in the same area when reinforcement was rushed to the site of incident.

"When a team of army was moving towards the site of earlier incident, another powerful explosion took place," sources said, adding that an army major was killed on the spot in this explosion. Army also confirmed death of the major and the soldier in these explosions.

In the third incident, an army porter namely Hem Raj son of Tara Chand of Dadal Sunderbani was shot by a “Pakistani sniper on LoC in Sunderbani,” sources said.

The injured porter was airlifted to a hospital for advanced treatment but he succumbed to his injuries.

Jammu based army spokesman Lt Col Devinder Anand confirmed the three deaths.
