A 29-year-old driver, missing since early December, was found dead in Rajouri district, officials said on Tuesday.

The body of Ram ChanderPrakesh, alias Vicky, resident of Siot village of Nowshera, was recovered from a stream near Lamberi village on Monday night, they said, adding that the deceased was missing since December 2. 

The body was handed over to the relatives of the deceased after completion of legal formalities, a senior official said.

Family members and relatives of the victim had blocked the Jammu-Poonch road, demanding a thorough investigation. The blockade was cleared following assurances from senior police officials. Member legislative council SurinderChoudhary also visited the protest site and interacted with the family members of the deceased. He assured that a tricycle will be provided to the specially-abled brother of the deceased, as he was the lone bread winner in the family. The administrative officers also assured that a fair probe will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death. Besides, a financial aid of Rs 1 lakh, on behalf of the district administration, was also announced for the family.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police registered a case of murder in Dharamsal police station and have started an investigation. "A FIR under sections 302 and 364 RPCs, accounting for murder and kidnapping, has been registered in Dharamsal police station," additional superintendent of police, Nowshera, GirdhariLal Sharma said.
