MISSING MAN FROM POONCH: Work in tandem to bring back my son; Alyas’ mother appeals India, Pakistan

Shamim Akhter, mother of Mohammad Alyas, a mentally unsound man who crossed over to Pakistan-administered Kashmir (PaK) from Jhulas in Poonch, made a passionate appeal to the governments of India and Pakistan to work together, in bringing back her son.

Mohammad Alyas, son of Mir Mohammad, went missing on December 11, after which his family lodged a missing report in Jhulas police post. While the family was searching for Alyas, a video went viral on social media, showing Alyas somewhere in Pakistan.

   

In the video, a man, claiming himself to be from Saira village of Hajira tehsil in PaK, can be seen saying that an unknown man, who does not know how he reached the village, is sitting next to him. The man also shows an identity card he recovered from the man sitting next to him. In the identity card, it can be seen that the sitting man is Mohammad Alyas, the missing man from Poonch.

“The unknown man shown in the video is my son and the identity card also authenticates the same,” the missing man’s mother told media persons on Friday.

She further said that her son has been mentally unsound since the past seven years and “must have crossed the Line of Control (LoC) inadvertently.” 

“I appeal to the governments of both India and Pakistan to work together, keeping aside their differences, in bringing back my son, who is somewhere in Pakistan,” Akhter said.

“He is somewhere in PaK and we want the government to bring him home,” Imtiyaz Ali, Alyas’ brother, said. 

7-year-old Rukhsana Akhter, Alyas’ daughter, also made a passionate appeal to both the governments.
